Coffee

I am 37 years old and have been drinking coffee for as long as I can remember (decaf for the last 8 or 10 years, but that still counts). Every morning I put the water and coffee grounds in my coffee pot and turn it on....then wait to enjoy my first cup. Nothing extraordinary, just an every day morning. But occasionally, like today, my husband will make my coffee and brew it before I get to the kitchen. On those mornings I am transported back to when I was a child and spent the night at my Grandparents house. The smell of coffee brewing ALWAYS takes me back to their house.....with my Grandmom smiling and cheerfully saying "Good Morning". My Grandfather usually had coffee breath too. Not that that is a bad thing. I don't quite understand why I don't get those "flashbacks" when I make the coffee.....only when I catch a whiff when someone else has brewed the pot. Weird, I know.

I am not very close to my Grandmom and Grandfather.....and they live in FL now so I haven't seen them in years. Even as I child I wasn't that close to them....not like the closeness I share with Poppop. But I still love them....and love my coffee flashbacks. Do you have any memories that are associated with particular smells? Leave me a comment and let me know.

Yesterday I had outpatient surgery. Everything went well...actually a little better than expected. The worst thing is that I am not supposed to go up any stairs for a week. We live in a split lever house so this is posing a lot of problems. But hubby got me all set up with a small refrigerator and food for the kiddos.....and he will be home from work before 3. So I think it will all work out. I am in a serious Fibromyalgia Flare which is making everything worse. But I have found out that if I stay under a heating blanket I don't hurt nearly as bad. I have been sweating and wishing it was cooler, but if it helps the pain then I gotta do it. Thanks again for all the prayers. I know they are helping me and I appreciate all of them.

I'm a coffee lover too:

I think the sense of smell is very powerful and brings back a lot of memories.

Good luck with your recovery.

I do like the way it smells, but I've never even had a sip.

I'm glad your surgery went well!

I was wondering how you were doing! Glad it all turned out alright! Sorry to hear about your flare though - you're body has been going through alot the past few weeks though! Relax & rest!! & sweat it out in those blankets!!

And yeah, I can smell smells - nothing particular - that takes me right back to my grandma's house. Certain lotions or certain foods... yep, I'm there!

I get the same kind of memories when I smell coffee. I remember as a kid my Granny would make me some "coffee" when she made her coffee. Of course mine was more milk than coffee.

My favorite caffeine of choice is Mountain Dew. I have to drink it EVERY morning or I resemble a Maryland CRAB.

I hope you are recovering well from your surgery! God bless!

I've got a TON of smells that bring me back to so many different things. I don't live in the past - but I base a lot of today on it. So I love those good memories. :)

I'm glad your surgery went well!

Flashback memories are great huh?

I have been praying very hard for you. Not that I don't do that every day, but I put a little extra effort in due to the surgery and the Fibro kicking your butt. I wish I was there to sit and rub your back for hours. You would love that.

I never take my electric blanket off my bed so I can turn it on the days when my legs are hurting more than normal. The heat does help.

Glad hubby has done so much to help you and good luck not going up the stairs for a week. "Sigh"

First, I'm so glad the surgery went well!

My parents never drank coffee, & I don't either, unless I need some caffiene, but the smell when you open a coffee can is one of the best smells ever!

I have the exact same memory. My grandparents and coffee. Although they were both heavy smokers for a long time I always smelled the coffee. My grandpa passed in '97 and my grandmother stopped smoking long before that. I'm lucky enough to still get to hang out with her. Now, we drink coffee together. :)

Coffee reminds me of Christmas morning. My parents didn't drink coffee so it was only made when family was coming over for Christmas Breakfast. YUMMMMMMMMM

Glad you are doing ok. Each day will be better. Soon you will be upstairs playing with Play Doh and all the other fun crafts you do with the boys.

Hope you feel better soon. Surgery always seems to make a flare 100x worse. After each of my C-sections, gallbladder surgery, and even my kidney biopsy...I had a time. Take Care!
