HELP!!!!!

I have searched and searched and found nothing. So I coming to you with my problem. We have a well and we have VERY hard water. We cant afford a water treatment system right now (that is not the problem). The problem is sunscreen. As soon as it touches our clothes (washed in Hard Water) it stains everything a brownish orange color.Actually it stained R's hair too....he has very light blonde hair. Washing fades it a little bit but not much. So summer is upon us and we need to put sunscreen on the boys....but how do I do it without ruining all our clothes?

We have the same problem...do you use the spray on sunscreen?

We have tried both the spray on and the rub on. Both give us stains but the spray seems to get on EVERYTHING. I guess it goes places you dont realize it goes. Have you found any way to get rid of the stains or any brands that stain less??

No, I haven't. I didn't start having a problem until we had Ally and started using the spray on kind. I'll ask Meeper about it because I know she has had similiar problems, and I believe hers was the spray on kind too, but I will check....

hi denise...yes i stalk your blog every now and again from facebook! of course you know that already from the hydrangea. anywho, as your neighbor you know we also have well water. you must get a water softener! when we moved in the water was horrible because the existing ws was crap!! we bought one from home depot and bye bye orange hair and dingy whites. you could get one at walmart or sears also. i know you said it's not in the budget right now but when it is my hubby will help you put it in if needed. In the meantime you can try this:

Get one of the pre-wash cleaning products that has a good reputation for removing these pesky stains. You can soak clothing for 30 minutes in warm water, with 1 tbsp. of an enzyme pre-soak product, such as Biz.

Wash your clothing properly if you have hard well water. Soak stained garments in white vinegar and warm water before washing them. Then, launder the clothing in the hottest water possible, making sure that the temperature will not harm the particular fabric.

Enlist the help of Carbona Stain Wizard, an extra-strength bio-enzyme product, to remove oily sunscreen discolorations from clothes. This product has built-in applicator brushes that you can use to loosen stains from your clothing. Check out the Carbona website to learn how to use this cleanser (see Resources below).

Check that the stain is out before drying the garment. After you clean the shirt, shorts or other clothing, check to see whether the spot is fully removed before you put the clothes in the dryer. The added heat can cause such as stain to further set into the fabric, making it tougher to get out later.

Guard your clothing from sunscreen stains by allowing your skin to dry and absorb the sunscreen before you put on a garment.

We rent our water softener...it's very reasonable each month (about $15.00.) Good luck!
