I have a confession. But before I confess I want to share something about myself.
I love to Bake. LOVE IT! Baking to me is like therapy, love and a hobby all rolled into one (get it?!? rolled....ha ha ha)
I bake when I am upset, happy, sad, hungry, bored, and just about every other emotion under the sun. When I think of doing things for other people the first thing that pops in my head is "what should I bake for them?"
Seriously, at this moment I have a triple layer oatmeal and chocolate bar cookie baking. I can handle stuff like that. I LOVE stuff like that.
Now that I have told you HOW much I love to bake I will tell you my dirty little secret.....
I am intimidated by yeast.
Yeah, I know. What kind of baker am I?
I don't make bread, unless it is in a bread machine. I don't make rolls, cinnamon buns, nothing like that. But I WANT to.
I just haven't gotten over my "fear" of yeast.
I really want to overcome this....I want to make nice, soft fluffy dinner rolls.......yummy cinnamon buns, etc. So I am asking.....please tell me any easy, starter recipes you might have....foolproof ones so I don't lose my nerve.
Thanks!

i have the same problem! banana bread, cakes, cookies... i love to make all of those. but i have only tried making a yeast bread once and failed miserably (actually twice, because i tried a second time after the first didn't work). if you find an easy and fool proof recipe, let me know!
catherine at evolving mommy is doing a month long bread challenge. she makes it seem pretty easy.
First of all I am having trouble think about yeast because your bars sound so so so yummy. Second of all maybe a good starter recipe would be a bread that doesn't have to rise perfectly. Maybe focaccia sense it is easy to shape and doesn't have to rise into a full sandwich sized loaf.

Try this WONDERFUL recipe...you use it in your bread machine so it's "easier" to work with...
I bought a bread making machine and I love it, but I agree with you, there is something creepy about yeast. But, I suppose that it's safe as long as I keep it away from the sugar!
I am SOOOOO not the person to ask. I hope you overcome though. :o)
i thought i was the ONLY "baker" out there that was afraid of yeast!
Wow, we are sooo much alike! I'm the exact same way with baking stuff... love it, do it all the time for people, etc. I'm totally not into making stuff with yeast either. I make break in a machine or pull out cinnamon rolls from a pillsbury can! So... sorry I can't be of help on this one!
Hahaha! You like to bake and I like to eat what other people bake! lol Have a blessed day!
It is a shame your dad didn't teach you that because he used yeast and baked bread, cinnamon rolls, etc. all the time. I baked but never bread. I like you use the bread machine for that. Sorry I can't help you.
i LOVE making bread! Yeastis easy. Just don't use HOT water, only warm. You can use any bread machine recipe without the bread machine. I make a dinner roll recipe from my bread machine cookbook without the machine. I'll send you the recipe!
Don't be afraid! Yeast can be your friend in the kitchen!
Go to allrecipes.com and I bet tons of recipes will pop up. I can't help because I hate being in the kitchen.
I just burned my arm last week baking cupcakes! I am not a baker! Yeast scares me too!
I'm not much of a cook, but I've been baking bread and pizza (!) lately which my family has enjoyed LOTS! The water temperature is critical--105-110 degrees, which feels like a warm summer day. Any hotter will kill the yeast. That seems to make it close to foolproof.
My fave 6 ingredient recipe--First, mix 1 c. warm water, 2 tbsp. sugar, and 2 1/4 tsp of yeast (that's a .25oz packet) Let it dissolve and foam for 10 minutes. Then come back and add: 3 c. bread flour, 1/4 c. vegetable oil, 1 tsp. salt. I've used all purpose flour too, with fine results. And put it in my breadmaker and oven too. (Except that it's too much for my small breadmaker so it explodes out the top but that's a different problem.) The pizza making, I've done by hand (recipe from "The Prudent Homemaker" which is just as easy. The kneading process is fun but messy! Kerry D.
